My name is Justin Close and this blog is acting as a digital portfolio of sorts. I will be posting work that I have done in the past that showcases my talents and abilities. Feel free to look around and comment on anything I have posted.

What Is English Rhetoric?
If you've made it this far, you're probably a bit curious as to what my degree actually is.
Rhetoric is a linguistic art form pertaining to the effectiveness and persuasiveness of language. There are 3 appeals of rhetoric. They are the following:
Ethos: character
Logos: logic/knowledge
Pathos: emotion
By combining these three appeals, a rhetorician is able to get his point across with the desired effect.
My degree relied heavily on these appeals, as throughout my course history, I was required to write on a variety of topics for a variety of audiences.
Some skills acquired throughout my degree include:
- writing copy for advertisements
- writing creatively (ex. short stories, poetry)
- designing and implementing marketing campaigns
- creating and editing digital video and sound
- graphic design for advertisements, websites, and other modes of communication
- etc.
Skills
- Project Organization - I have practical experience as a teacher organizing and managing projects for over 80 students
- Writing - Through my English degree I have written various types of works, from essays to copy for adverts to short, creative pieces
- Adobe Creative Suite - I have practical experience using both Photoshop and Illustrator, although I am much more experienced with Photoshop. I also have some working knowledge of Flash and Dreamweaver
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) - I am a proficient user of all three
- Apple iWork - I am a proficient user of both Pages and Keynote
- Analytical - My analytical skills have been honed throughout the acquisition of my BA: doing research projects, tests, etc.
- Customer Service - I have a strong understanding of customer relations, which was cemented through experience in retail sales as well as as a customer service representative
- Video & Audio Editing - I am proficient with audio editing (I used to DJ), and have experience with Soundforge and Acid, as well as a working knowledge of video editing using Sony Vegas
- Windows (All Versions) & Apple OS X - I am a user of both Macs and PCs, and have a great understanding of both
- Bow Staff, Nun-chucks, and Magic... okay, just joking.
